Now for the boring part, I completed my undergraduate studies at the University of Evansville where I played Division I baseball. I attended and received my J.D. from Southern Illinois University School of Law in Carbondale, Illinois. During law school, I interned with the Vanderburgh County Prosecutor's office in Evansville, Indiana. I was admitted to the Indiana Bar in 2001 and began practicing law in Evansville, Indiana focusing primarily on labor and employment law while dabbling in other areas such as collections and family law.

I somewhat insanely took another bar exam in 2002 being admitted to the Illinois Bar in the same year (also the same year I met my wife). In 2003, I moved to the Chicago area to expand my horizons. My practice pretty much concentrated on the defense of all things for some pretty big clients including product liability (elevators, escalators, HVAC), premises liability, and transportation related claims including those arising out of auto and tractor-trailer accidents. I also gained valuable experience in commercial and appellate litigation.

I am technically a general practice attorney. I am a good litigator and that is where the greater part of my experience lies. I am passionate about the law and in particular estate planning but, as you can see from my website, I don't limit myself to the areas of litigation or estate planning.

So what brings me to Washington, Pennsylvania? I still sometimes wonder how I got here. After the arrival of our two sons (Owen in 2010 and Declan in 2012), my wife and I re-evaluated our priorities and where we wanted to raise our boys. My wife is Marissa (Brownlee) Clancy for the locals who are interested. The small town of Washington, where she grew up, seemed like the perfect place. I have found that I love practicing law in this area. I love the small town, the community, and the people. I gained admission to the Pennsylvania Bar in 2012 and the West Virginia Bar in 2013. On January 13, 2014, The Law Office of Brett A. Clancy opened its doors.
